IRVING, Texas -Rory Sabbatini has already won at Hogans Alley. Now the South African shares the lead going into the final round at Byron Nelsons tournament.

Anything associated with his name would be an absolute honor, Sabbatini said after shooting a 5-under 65 on Saturday to keep a share of the lead with John Mallinger in the Byron Nelson Championship.

Two years after his last victory, at the Colonial where Ben Hogans larger-than-life statue is prominent, Sabbatini is in position to win again. He made five birdies in a seven-hole stretch midway through his third round.

Mallinger also shot a 65 to match Sabbatini at 13-under 197.

Dustin Johnson (66), D.A. Points (65) and Brian Davis (66) were 11 under.

Senior PGA Championship

BEACHWOOD, Ohio - Michael Allen, winless in 271 PGA Tour events, shot a 3-under 67 to take a one-shot lead over Jeff Sluman and Tom Kite through three rounds in the Senior PGA Championship.

Allen, who turned 50 in January and is making his senior debut, had a 3-under 207 total at Canterbury in the Champions Tours first major championship of the year.

Sluman had the lead to himself before bogeying the 16th and 18th holes, completing a 70 that left him tie with Kite (69). Larry Mize (71), Gil Morgan (707) and Tim Simpson (68) were 1 under.

LPGA Corning Classic

CORNING, N.Y. - Japanese rookie Mika Miyazato matched the tournament record with a 10-under 62 for a share of the third-round lead with South Koreas Soo-Yun Kang in the final LPGA Corning Classic.

Kang had a 65 to match the 19-year-old Miyazato at 17-under 199. They tied the tournament 54-hole record.

South Koreas Yani Tseng was a stroke back after a 62.

Tseng made two eagles and four birdies on the front nine for a 28. That was just one stroke better than playing partner Natalie Gulbis (12 under after a 66), but it broke the tournament record of 29 set two years ago by Wendy Ward. It also made Tseng just the ninth player in LPGA history to shoot 8 under for nine holes.

Eunjung Yi made three eagles in her first five holes to become just the fifth player in LPGA history to accomplish the feat on a round. She was 7 under after a 69.

Michelle Wie was 8 under after a 68.

BMW PGA Championship

VIRGINIA WATER, England - Englands Paul Casey shot a bogey-free 5-under 67 to stretch his lead to three strokes after the third round of the BMW PGA Championship,

Casey, who missed 4-foot birdie chances on the last two holes, Casey had a 13-under 203 total at Wentworth. Denmarks Soren Kjeldsen (68) holed a 25-foot putt from across the green at the last to move into second, while Northern Ireland prodigy Rory McIlroy had the best round of the week, a 7-under 65, to third at 9 under.

Ernie Els was even par after a 70, and John Daly was 5 over after a 77.

Irish Open winner Shane Lowry turns pro

May 21, 2009

Shane Lowry, who won last weeks Irish Open as an amateur, has turned pro and will be playing for money at next weeks European Open.

The burly 22-year-old Irishman, who shot a 10-under 62 in his second round, won a playoff to capture the Irish Open on Sunday in his first European Tour event, beating eight of the worlds top 50 golfers.

He said Thursday that turning professional will give me the greatest chance of becoming the best player I can be in the future.

Horsey and Wall share early lead in BMW PGA event

May 21, 2009

Tour rookie David Horsey and Anthony Wall shot 5-under 67s to share the lead in the BMW PGA Championship on Thursday, after some big names faltered early in the first round.

Both Englishmen birdied four holes on the back nine, with Horsey picking up shots on the last three.

Horsey, who won the lower-tier Challenge Tour Order of Merit last year, also shot 67 in the final round of the Irish Open on Sunday, but in entirely different conditions.

I was out first in hardly any winds, good greens and no holdups, the 24-year-old Horsey said in comparing Sundays strong winds in Ireland. I managed to adjust quite quickly.

Fourth-ranked Henrik Stenson, winner of the prestigious Players Championship at Sawgrass early this month, was last among the early finishers with a 5-over 40 on the front nine on the way to a 78.

Ryder Cup players Oliver Wilson and Graeme McDowell shot 76 and 75, respectively. McDowell said he was again troubled by shin splints in his right leg which forced him out of the Irish Open during Saturdays third round.

It doesnt hurt hitting shots, just when Im walking and this is a tough walking course, he said. I hope it is not a stress fracture or Ill be out for weeks.

Charl Schwartzel and Ross Fischer shot 68s. Fisher had an eagle 3 at the last, where he almost holed his second shot.

Paul Casey, Robert Karlsson and 2003 British Open champion Ben Curtis were among a group at 69.

Curtis, who is playing in this event for the first time since 2006, birdied the last two holes.

I love playing in Europe. Its a great opportunity to travel and have some fun playing different courses, said Curtis, who has entered the Race to Dubai which tops this years European Tour.

Horsey disclosed that his mother Anne has been battling breast cancer since last year and has just completed a round of chemotherapy.

The disclosure came a day after it was revealed that Amy Mickelson, the wife of Phil Mickelson, has breast cancer.

Hopefully they have caught it in time but no one wants to go through that, Curtis said.
