Handed money to golfing starter

Hi, I went golfing the other day and some of the players were giving the starter money. What for? Is it a tip, a bet or something

It’s trying to buy your way into a better tee time. I’d complain to management and say “I thought I made a tee time for a reason…should I be bringing extra money to give to your starter to bribe him or what?”

I agree with the above answer, but I’d also be the next person to give him money. At private courses it is like tipping the matre d to get a better table. then you hav a connection at the club for the next thing you need.

Ryder, don’t be hasty you may want to play that course again and getting the starter angry at you will put you and your friends in a bad way. Find out from the club management if tipping is allowed for starting time, no names or accusations. Play it safe.
