Pebbles Beach Betting odds – Donald a good pick at Pebbles Beach

March 6, 2010

Golf odds – Pick Luke Donald +2500

If online betting players could pick one course to play, you’d probably get a fair amount of Pebble Beach picks, as the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am is one of the most famous events in the world, as well known for its celebrity factor. But there’s some great golf to be played by the pros, and this week’s winner is a player that was destined for big things before he was derailed by injury. He came close to winning last week, and this week, he’ll come through.

What: Golf betting
Where: Pebble Beach Golf Links, Spyglass Golf Course, Monterey Peninsula Country Club
When: Thursday, February 11-Sunday, February 14

Defending Champion: Dustin Johnson

Phil Mickelson is the favorite at +800 in this event, and he struggled to a 45th-place finish at Riviera last week. However, you have to factor in that “Lefty” was distracted by the fuss his wedge grooves caused, and now he can get back to golf. Mickelson has great memories at Pebble Beach with wins in 1998, 2005 and 2007, which means that players have to consider him, but he has to sort out his driver. Mickelson is 166th in driving accuracy, and it’s tougher to make birdies when you’re hitting your second shots from the rough the all the time.

Jim Furyk is next at +1800, and the veteran made his 2010 debut last week at Riviera, finishing with a solid 20th-place result. He shot under 70 in both weekend rounds, so he knocked some rust off his game. Furyk has seven top-25s in 13 visits to Pebble Beach, and he was T-33 here in 2009. If it gets windy here (and it’s been known to), Furyk’s sportsbook odds could get better, as there aren’t many better when the weather starts to pick up.

Dustin Johnson is the defending champion at +2000, and he fired a Sunday 66 to storm to a T-3 finish at Riviera. Johnson also held the lead heading into Saturday after a 64-67 which including a hole-in-one, but a 74 on Saturday killed his chances. Johnson could be on the brink of a big year as he’s off to a great start, and his irons give him lost of birdie chances, as Johnson is 39th in greens-in-regulations.

Luke Donald is another player who is hot out of the gate, and he is rated at +2500 after coming in second to Steve Stricker at Riviera. His game is starting to come around after a wrist injury bothered him for a couple of seasons, and like Johnson, Donald could be one of the players to watch in 2010 in the absence of Tiger Woods.

D.J. Trahan is your resident darkhorse at +8000, and he’s been inconsistent to start the year, with results of MC-7-47 in three events this year. But Trahan finished T-6 here last year, and he’s 32nd in greens-in-regulation, which is a crucial stat at Pebble Beach, especially on the main course.

Free sport pick: We’re standing behind Luke Donald this week for a couple of reasons: one, he’s consistent, which is key at Pebble Beach. Two, he has a good track record here with three top-20s in five starts, and he owns the Spyglass course record with a 62 he shot in 2006, which is coincidentally the last year he won on the PGA Tour. Donald started to look healthy after his fifth-place finish in the British Open last year, and it’s all starting to come together for the talented Englishman. Bet on Luke Donald.
